We take our policies seriously and hope you will too – they are completely necessary in order for us to maintain a top-notch pet-sitting service for you and your pets. If you need clarification on any of our policies below, please email us and we will be happy to provide you a detailed explanation.

- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
- Christmas Eve
- 4th of July
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
All “non holiday” pet sitting cancellations will be charged at 50% of the invoice amount if NOT cancelled with at least 72 hours notice of the start of your scheduled trip.
All “holiday” pet sitting cancellations will be charged at 50% of the invoice amount if NOT cancelled with at least 2 weeks notice of the start of your scheduled trip.
NOTE: All scheduled pet sitting according to your final confirmed reservation will be charged regardless of delayed departures or early returns as we have reserved that time to visits your pets.
No “on call” reservations will be accepted.
Vacation and/or weekend pet sitting will need to be made within 10 days of your return. Your pet-sitter will leave your invoice with complete instructions on what to send to our office. Accepted payments are check and cash.
Daily/Weekly customers will be billed every 2 weeks with payment expected on the final day of each 2-week billing cycle. Your pet-sitter will leave you an invoice 2 days prior to the day payment is due.
If you are especially pleased with your service and would like to tip your pet-sitter, you may pay her directly OR include it with your payment that indicates the amount to be dispersed. Alternatively, you can leave it in your home for your pet-sitter.
You will be billed for all scheduled visits regardless of delayed departures or early returns as we have reserved that time to visits your pet(s).
We will NOT visit pets less than once every 24 hours. The only exception would be small caged pets that could be visited every other day, subject to case-by-case evaluation of the job requirements.
All “indoor” dogs will be visited at least 3 times/day (with the exception of the first and last day of your trip).
We will visit your pets as close to their “usual” time as possible; however, we can make no guarantees that will come at a specified time and reserve the right to make adjustments based on our overall pet-sitting schedule on any given day and time. The only exception to that is pets that are on strict-medication schedules and we will adhere to those requirements.
If you have a “visiting” pet while we are caring for your own pets, we will need sufficient notice to have time to meet that pet prior to your departure.
If any of the pets in your home are people-aggressive and/or pet-aggressive, we reserve the right to decline service for the safety of our pet sitters.
If you have a pet that requires medication but is unwilling to have us administer it, we will have to decline care of that particular pet.
We are NOT able to provide care for dogs left outdoors 24/7.
We will feed feral cats within reason as long as they are on your property.
Pet Identification and Leash Policy
All pets that we need to take outdoors to eliminate will be required to wear current, legible identification. This includes cats that we are instructed to let out and in each day.
We will NOT use retractable leashes or any “unsafe” leash and/or collar apparatus in our opinion. If we are not satisfied with what you provide us during the initial meet and greet, we will make recommendations for other appropriate restraint devices OR decline service.
We will NOT walk dogs that are uncontrollable, that pull excessively or that are in heat.
Keys/Access To Home
After your first 2 pet-sitting services, if we are not permitted to retain your key, you will be charged $5.00 to pick up and $5.00 to drop off your key on all subsequent services.
Allowing us to retain a key speaks highly of your trust in Sunshine Pet Care and is greatly appreciated. All keys are uniquely coded without names and/or addresses associated with that key.
If you would like to give us access to your home using a garage opener or code, that would be great BUT we’ll always require a key as well in case of power outage.
We will not utilize a hidden key nor will we leave a key inside your home on our last visit in case your return is delayed.
Inclement Weather or Other Emergencies
We will make every effort to visit your pets as scheduled, even during inclement weather. We will however; adjust the schedule as needed for the safety of your pet-sitter. Provisions for “back up” with a neighbor will be made whenever possible prior to your departure.
We have several pet sitters on staff that can step in if your pet sitter has a true emergency. We check in with our sitters every day to be sure they are maintaining their schedule, especially in bad weather.
Shared Pet Care
If we are sharing pet care with a friend, neighbor or other “3rd party”, due to insurance limitations, we cannot provide our services unless we are released from liability for the time we are sharing the care for your pets or when any other 3rd party (cleaning staff) is in your home. Anyone that has been given permission to access your home for any reason must document the time they arrived and departed and what they did with the pets while there so that we will know what transpired.
Confirming Your Return
We require that you confirm your return home to your pet-sitter regardless of the time of day. We need to know when you have physically returned home as this completes the legal transfer of responsibility for pet and home care. If we are unable to reach you, we will continue to make visits to care for your pets until you are home. If we come and find that you are home but did not contact us, you will be charged for the visit.
By signing the Veterinary Release Form at our initial meet and greet, you are agreeing to allow Sunshine Pet Care to make decisions on your pet’s behalf which include emergency care if necessary. We will make every attempt to contact you to discuss the situation, but if we are unable to reach you, we will use our best judgment with the best interests of your pets in mind. You agree by signing the release form, to pay for any and all charges incurred by us to your veterinarian promptly upon your return, including any out of pocket expenses we may have had to pay.
All first time customers will receive a 10% discount on their total bill.
For all referrals (that we are able to book service with), you will receive a coupon for 15% off your next pet sitting service. Referrals are unlimited!
